Purnea Mahila Mahavidyalaya, founded in 1970 in Purnea District (Bihar), is located in the heart of Purnea town. This Constituent College (Under Purnea University, Purnea) has a sprawling, green campus, providing an ambience that is conducive to learning and growth. It has an enrolment of around ten thousand students, with more than thirty faculty members imparting education in various streams. The institution has excellent infrastructure, furthering the academic experience of its students. The library, well-stocked, serves as a veritable hub for academic

research and study, while the departmental laboratories further hands-on learning in the science discipline for students. The college is equipped with facilities for various sports and games and is proud of having students who have represented the district and the state of Bihar at the national level. A well-maintained IT infrastructure also exists within the campus to provide the students with the latest technology for their studies. There is also a structured auditorium where many events and seminars take place and it mirrors the rich cultural environment of the college.

Purnea Mahila Mahavidyalaya, in view of the diversified academic interests and outreach, offers a wide spectrum of full-time courses. The college provides degree courses in six undergraduate and postgraduate programs: B.A, B.Sc., BBA (Vocational), BCA (Vocational), B.Sc. in Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics (Vocational), and M.A. in Home Science. This enables the students to excel in theoretical as well as practical aspects of academic learning, so that they may have better career options and pursue further studies. The admission process at Purnea Mahila Mahavidyalaya is designed to be inclusive and merit-based.

The college has student welfare facilities -especially for SC, ST & OBC girls. Girls at the college are constantly encouraged and engaged to participate in extracurricular activities which are held inside and outside the campus. Girls are constantly urged to participate in the local and national level programs of active units of the National Services Scheme (NSS) and the National Cadet Corps (NCC)in the college. The college has a proud history of students who have participated and represented the state in national level cultural events.

The college has a duly constituted anti-ragging committee to investigate incidents and recommend punitive actions as per the directive of Hon’ble Supreme Court Orders. It also has a Career Counselling Cell to provide help and proper guidance to students pursuing a decent career.

The College has also a center for Distance Learning Courses of Indra Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). The College is enriched with scholarly faculty members, well equipped laboratories and a rich Library with more than 20000 reference books. It has books on every subject, including fiction, non-fiction, published Research Papers, History and books on Science subjects. The College is registered under section 2f and 12B of the University Grant Commission, New Delhi and was accredited with B++ by NAAC in the year 2005.
